Local artist Tom Hermansader is offering free art instruction for anyone "age 6 through senior citizens." The instruction, with the theme "Draw and Paint Historic Columbia 2011," will take place in different locations around the river town on several days throughout the summer.
Students will sketch sites in charcoal and pencil and develop them into paintings.
Sites and times are:
Columbia Market House "dungeon," on July 21 at 11 a.m.; the Burning Bridge Antique Market on July 28; St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Aug. 4; Hermansader's Victorian Mansion Art Gallery on Aug. 11; Burger King on Aug. 18; and the First National Bank Museum on Aug. 25.
Art supplies will be provided free through the support of Frank Sahd Salvage Center, Hinkle's Pharmacy and Hotel Locust.
