Live Chat
Folks, I'm planning to hold the first of many live chats on COLUMBIA TALK, on Thursday, Sept.. 1, at 11 a.m.
If this works, it will become a weekly event, at various times and days, I will post how this will take place at a later date how to log into later today.
I ask the comments and questions be kept clean on borough issues, sports, life in general, the election, etc.

Fourth Friday and Art in the Park
Fourth Fridays in Columbia will be held on Aug. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitors may experience art galleries, antique and specialty shops, and eateries during the at-your-own-pace tour, which will feature exhibits from local and visiting artists, as well as refreshments.
The second annual Art in the Park hosted by Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center will coincide with the Fourth Friday programming. Art in the Park features artists in a variety of media located in Locust Street Park. Attendees may view and purchase exhibited artwork and enjoy music during the event, which will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., rain or shine. Light refreshments will be available for purchase.

Lancaster City/County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person(s) responsible for the listed crime.
- Dwayne WEIR
- 42 years of age
- Tattoo: Upper Left Arm – Skull w/heart and names of kids “Tanya” and “Dwayne”
Dwayne WEIR is wanted by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department on a parole violation relating to prior burglary charges. WEIR is also wanted by the Susquehanna Regional Police Department for several felony charges relating to Burglary and Flight to Avoid Apprehension after he broke through a ceiling in an apartment building in order to flee from police in a stolen vehicle. WEIR was last seen operating a white Dodge Durango with (PA) registration HRN3696. WEIR MAY BE ARMED.
Anyone with information regarding WEIR is urged to call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department at 717-299-8200, or Lancaster City/Lancaster County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-1913. Callers can remain anonymous and do not have to give their names.

What happened to the Shack?
It's for sale as the owner is asking about $6,000 for it and the contents. Talked with the owner tonight when I was sitting out front getting some fresh air. He was showing it to a possible interested buyer.
The owner said he has a flooring business wanted to do this on the side and his original idea was to tow it from weekend events to make some extra bucks, but decided to rent the space from the landlord, who lives in York County.
He said it just wasn't working as he thought and he had no problems with Columbia Borough other than they wanted him to put an aluminum hood on the structure. The rent and insurance issues were major factors, plus not much business.
Got to give the guy major props for trying in a bad economy.

Practice delayed because of search
Fall sports get late start tonight at high school. The football team was getting ready to hit the gridiron, while the volleyball team and cheerleaders were practicing as this event unfolded. The teams were locked in the school and field house for about 30 minutes as there were numerous police cars around the high school.

Weekend update
Tomorrow, the Columbia High School football team will be canvassing the town seeking patrons for the football program from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold its first annual canoe/kayak challenge, starting in Marietta and ending at River Park, tomorrow.
The Holy Trinity Catholic Church will hold its annual chicken barbecue, also tomorrow.
Sunday, the Ashley Tabernacle Churches of God in Christ, will hold their annual baptism at River Park from 3-6 p.m. Went to this last year and there were a lot of people and I found it very moving.
