The Columbia softball team will sit idle this week and possinly all of next week, waiting for the District Three playoffs to begin. The first round is schedule for Friday, May 21, but it is more likely the Tide will play its first-ever District Three Class AA game on Tuesday, May 25. Site, time and opponent to be announced.
Last year, there were 10 teams in the Class AA field, which saw Brandywine Heights beat Upper Dauphin in the finals.
The other teams in the playoffs last yuear were Annville-Cleona, Bermudian Springs, Boiling Springs, Hanover, Juniata, Kutztown, Oley Valley and Schuylkill Valley.
There are 23 teams in Class AA in District Three -- of those teams, nine have losing records as of today, which would take the field down to 14 possible teams.
