Should there be a concern?

When downtown this morning and speaking to a law enforcement officer, I was informed that a nuisance bar in the 400 block of Locust Street is planning a Hip-Hop/Party next Friday. There is a concern that something could happen and it might be nice to have some extra officers on call to help those working the streets next Friday, but, the extra manpower request might be denied. Perhaps it might be a good idea to put some extra police on the streets, just in case.

I dont see how a nuisance bar one step from losing its license can even have such an event or WOULD even have such an event. Maybe PLCB will be watching.

Instead of wasting tax payer dollars in providing additional police, how about closing down this problem bar. It seems our local police are burdened with responding to this dump on an almost daily basis. So just what is the problem. There are other bars in town that never, or seldom, have a problem that requires the police.

It's reckless and stupid, really. They should take into account what happened last time we had a hip-hop party.

Yes, the last one ended badly, to say the least.

The management of said bar should hire their own security at their OWN expense for this. Why should we, the Boro taxpayers, foot the bill for providing security for this?

i agree 100 percent! the owner, mgmt of said bar should hire their own security or maybe the police should bill them every time they have to respond. same goes for security for businesses. hire a security firm just like homeowners have to. WHY should the taxpayers of this little town HAVE to pay for YOUR security?

Should there be a concern? Absolutely.. the concern should be that this rathole is still allowed to operate. It has been nothing but an arena for drug dealing, fighting, and liquor law violations. Yet, after a 4 year investigation, the PA Liquor Control Enforcemet agency gave them a little slap on the wrist and allowed them to continue. Will there be problems at this "event?" You can bet your a** there will be.

why did LCB only give them a slap on the wrist? what can we do to rid our town of this pigsty, drug infested hell hole

there's a simple solution - buy it using some of the upcoming round 2 stimulas money and make a parking lot for the Hotel's and surrounding shops!

meaning that the Borough should just purchase this property, whack it down since it's most likely rotten termite and roach invested, and make a nice public parking lot for the district!

Wow...there's a solution. Have the borough buy every problem property in Columbia. PLEASE buy mine first so I can get the hell out of here!!!

WHAT A STUPID IDEA!!!!!

No, it could be a great idea... if the boro spent their money on these investments...just maybe??????....> they would spruce up to promote their investment.
Up to date on codes, laws etc!???

it's a great idea - and no Anonymous, not every problem property in the Borough - just the ones at strategic locations - like on the 400 block of Locust (the bar!), around the Farmers Market, around the Turkey Hill Experience, maybe the hole in the ground behind Hotel Columbia (but don't pay much for that one!) - these are places where there needs to be more parking to enhance downtown development - for a few million bucks in grant money to buy up a handfull of properties - it could easily spur tens of millions in development projects. Just imagine what can be done with Hotel Columbia - the building is a diamond in the rough, a true Lancaster County Gem, but without good public parking nearby its not likely to sell or be developed for 20 years!
