Advertising at River Park

Saw this sign posted Sunday at River Park. Is this legal?

Why not? The guy cleans up around the river park everyday. I also observed him cleaning up the islands around the parking area which was filled with weeds.

If this does not have DCNR approval it better be gone before the next borough council meeting!!!!!

at least these people are motivated to clean up. if only all the renters in this boro were, we wouldn't have the problems that we do. BUT, these people are NOT from Columbia

This opens the door for everybody and his brother to go down there and slap a sign up....I am sure they will clean up the area too.

LOL...he cleans up...let's let him advertise and move his business wherever he wants. Sorry, that's not how it works. If you're a true outdoorsman like many of us you clean up because you want to keep the area beautiful. You pick up fishing line because you want to help the wildlife...you pick up litter simply because you were taught to leave the outdoors BETTER than when you entered it. You DO NOT do it because you want to get something in return. This guy has made it QUITE EVIDENT that he's using his "clean up" activities as leverage to get his business into the river park. I know TONS of hunters and fishermen who cleanup more trash on that river then this new guy ever will in his lifetime. What do they get in return? Nothing. Funny thing is, they're OK with that as long as they get to use the ramp to do what they love to do. It's a shame more people don't have the same attitude and would rather do good for personal gain.

Boy this town is buisness friendly. And what does DCNR have to do with anything? Wake up and focus on a real problem, not a river sport.......

I'm all for business friendly...heck, we need all we can get. Just make sure it's fair, honest and thought through. Not just because someone cleans up. Like I said in an earlier post, he may act as if he's the only one who cares about the river but if he grew up on the river like the rest of us he'd be quickly awakened. As far as DCNR, they funded the project so yes, they do have a say. In fact Columbia had to supply a written plan requesting permission to allow private business into the park. In fact Lori said she just met with Leo and Norm a week or two ago explaining this to them.

There are larger problems that need to be dealt with than the one of someone putting up a sign.

Not everybody reads signs, like all dogs must be on a leash

FU says

"...a true sportsmen..." Marlin Perkins and Wild Kingdom went off the air years ago. Have you taken a look lately as to how many empty styrofoam bait containers, fishing line, hooks, etc. are left laying along the shoreline. I know because I'm one of "those" who pick up after these sportsmen.

Well, then they aren't sportsmen by any sense of the imagination. They are merely people who want to sit on the shoreline and waste some time so don't classify them as such. True sportsmen, as I put it, are just as disgusted with it as you are so don't stereotype.

Heck, I see a lot of kayakers and conoers out there partying drinking away. Would I classify kayakers as drunk litteres like you have with sportsmen? Heck no, a few bad apples do not spoil a bunch.

Of course you chose to stereotype an entire group based off of a few idiots sitting on the shore.

My point is that there are tons of quality, caring sportsmen (duck hunters, fishermen etc...) that have taken care of that river long before anyone even gave a rats @$$ about that river park. The reason you don't know about them is because they leave no trace of being there which is how it should be.

Now someone comes in doing what we have been doing for the past 20 years or more and acts like they're saving everything all the while looking for something in return? Please. I commend anyone who takes pride in that park and the river, we need more like it so he IS doing something truley great by keeping it clean. But when you look to use it as leverage to get something in return the "devotion to the river" statement loses a little bit of it's luster. Sportsmen do it because we want to keep the environment and the gift we've been given strong and clean for future generations. We ask nothing in return. Can you imagine hunters going down there saying "Hey Leo...let us have special privelages like being able to store our decoys in the building you're going to build. We watch over more of the river than one person and clean up trash whenever we se it". First off, we would never expect that and second we'd get laughed at.

disclaimer: By idiots I refer to those littering, not those fishing off the shore.

amen, well said. and a "true sportsman" does NOT need to be patted on the back...he does all this with a quiet heart.
