good luck! i think it's the PERFECT time to NOT re[place or fill this position. what can't anybody understand? this is Columbia Boro, we can NOT afford to replace/fill this position. The numbers were listed recently, i'm sure this position is worth at LEAST $80,000. that's WITHOUT ALL THE BENEFITS. We can NOT afford this. This boro has WAY TOO MANY administrators for the 3 public schools. it's 100% UNACCEPTABLE. WE CAN NOT AFFORD IT. OUR TAXES KEEP GOING UP AND UP. I haven't had a raise for 3 YEARS !!!! but my taxes continue to go up EVERY YEAR and so does my health insurance. i can barely survive. and i know there are hundreds more in the same position. WHY CAN'T YOU HEAR US???????? THE RENOVATIONS TO THE HIGH SCHOLLS SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN DONE. IF WE NEED MORE SPACE THEN , YOU SHOULD HAVE FOUND A WAY TO TAX THE HELL OUT OF ALL THESE RENTERS IN THIS BORO, WHO HAVE MANY CHILDREN, DON;T WORK, HELL, DON;T EVEN TAKE CARE OF WHAT THEY RENT. TAX THEM TO PAY FOR THE UPGRADES TO THE SCHOOL. IT'S RIDICULOUS. My husband and I both work 40 hours a week and can barely survive. i am looking to move out of town, if i have to pay exorbitant taxes then i at least want a piece of ground to go with it. signed-75% of the homeowners in this boro.(Barry, i hope you'll post this, it needs said)

An argument is made by renters that they pay their taxes through their landlord by paying rent. This may be true in some cases BUT……if someone is paying their rent through government subsidies, such as welfare, section 8 assistance, etc., are they really paying taxes through their landlord. NO…. they are simply recycling the tax money paid by homeowners. On another note, it always seems the people who do not own property and pay taxes are the first to complain about something at the school and never participate in fundraising or other community projects.

Agreed. . .. if the school board has its act together this position WILL NOT be filled and should be eliminated as a COST SAVING MOVE.

It will be interesting to see how this event plays out.

amen, i agree. even if the renters pay so called taxes to their landlords, it's a mere smidgnece of what us homeowners pay. they need to tax EVERY ADULT RENTER INDIVIDUALLY for school taxes. period. they need NOT replace/fill this position. the people of this town are speaking, we can NOT AFFORD it.

I hear everyone on this blog but you must remember that this position is responsible for all discipline at the high school. And there is an overwhelming amount of discipline that goes on. A better idea is to eliminate a higher administrator type of position. Do we really need an assistant superintendant? I think for the benefit of our students, it would be a grave mistake to NOT fill this position. Until you have walked those halls and know what goes on, you cannot make this decision solely on money. Taxes are outrageous but many things go into those taxes. The downfall of this town is the high population of rental units and the type of people they draw. I wonder
statistically what the percentages are: more private homeowners or more rental units? I hate these taxes as well, but there has to be a better way without taking the very people that have day to day contact with our students to try to keep them in line....cut a higher administrator instead. God help Mrs. Babic if McGlynn is not replaced!

Being born & raised and seeing what the school used to be and the problems that were there then and what they are now, I have to put the blame on the parents for the behavior issues that have to be dealt with. I have a child at the high school and one at the elementary school, and they both know that if they even think about getting into trouble at school, no matter how minor, there will be trouble at home as well. Too many parents now try to think that their child does no wrong....think about when you were that age....I'm remembering back and that's what keeps me in check. There are just too many parents who aren't there to guide their kids or are too worried about themselves and having a good time (I live downtown and see it all the time). I even have asked kids if they kiss their moms with that mouth when I hear some of the stuff they say and they look at me like I have 4 heads(they probably have never been shown affection, either).
The taxes are outrageous, the school has gone downhill faster than the Jamaican Bobsled team because all the district cares about is PSSA testing. There are very few quality teachers who probably will be retiring in the next year or two that actually teach and care about the education the children get. It's not going to take long before those born & raised are run out of town to find a quality education that prepares the students for life outside a small community.

Yeah, we need the position filled to make the children of the renters behave!!!!!

Another burden on the tapayers from the renters, how sad.

I THINK A GOOD IDEA WOULD TO LOOK IN TO THE COPS IN SCHOOL PROGRAM. IT WOULD BE A LOT CHEAPER TO HAVE A POLICE OFFICER ASSIGNED TO THE HIGH SCHOOL EVERYDAY. THEN WHERE THERE IS A PROBLEM AT THE SCHOOL HE CAN HANDLE IT AND NOT HAVE TO CALL A PATROL UNIT OFF THE STREET. I THINK WITH A POLICE OFFICER PATROLLING THE SCHOOL IT MIGHT STOP TROUBLE BEFORE IT GETS STARTED. I ALSO THINK YOU MIGHT FIND SOME GRANT MONEY TO HELP FUND THIS PROGRAM. I KNOW IT WOULD BE A LOT CHEAPER AND THE POLICE OFFICER COULD WORK OTHER DUTIES WHEN SCHOOL IS NOT IS SESSION.

God help us all, if we are so stupid and lack what it takes to make this right. school board needs to clean house and downsize about 6 management positions-however they're titled-asst to this administrator, head of this dept. for God's sake, this is Columbia Boro-WE CAN NOT AFFORD THIS. YOU (school board) WON'T BE HAPPY UNTIL ALL THE GOOD OLE' COLUMBIANS MOVE OUT. maybe now it's a necessity that Columbia join in with West Hempfield-for the numbers and money alloted but keep the separate schools-West Hempfield doesn't want us either. The boro should STOP taking all these problem students too. going to alternate schools and we foot the bill. the student should have to live in the district for a full year before sending to alternate school or the parents foot the entire bill. how hard is it? put your thinking caps on. this is do or die. sink or swin. get my drift?

i think it has come down to a sink or swim deal. school board MUST realize that we CAN NOT afford this. rewrite ordinances, do whatever you have to do. but take care of us taxpaying homeowners NOT transient renters. all these kids and alternate schooling, etc is a HUGE problem and one we can not afford....WHY DO YOU THINK ALL THESE TRANSIENTS, RENTERS IMIIGRANTS GET OFF THE BUS AND COME HERE-BECAUSE WE MAKE IT TOO EASY FOR THEM. WE HAND THEM EVERYTHING AND THEY DO NOTHING, PAY NOTHING AND DON'T EVEN LEARN HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH. this is a very serious matter and should have been dealt with years ago. they're killin us one at a time

If the taxes in this town weren't so damn high, more people would buy a home then rent it!!! One side of the street might pay 2500$ while the other side pays 3900$ Now you go figure that one out!! :O) TIM

it is truly a shame, with all the connections norm and leo and mary w have, who don't they have the whole boro REASSESSED? i know i pay too much in taxes almost $5,000.00 WOW- i really need to move

Speaking upon the Schoolboard, we had a very low % of students graduate high school! We just added on to the school, teachers just got a raise, geo thermal air, ect... "BOTTOM LINE" no one is doing their jobs right. ALL the schoolboard and some teachers are not doing a very good job! period!! :O( Robert

how sad, if only parents had any backbone, they'd make their kids behave and respect all the teachers.i say make the parents, who collect welfare, come and watch their bad kids every day, and while they're there maybe they can do some cleaning or something.

school should have zero tolerance-for bad students-whether they act up, mouth off, harress anyone-expel them and do not let them back in. it's about time the parents parent these brats
