For the next three days

The comments without names have been for the most good, but some, well, haven't been published, But until Thursday, I'm not going to be posting posts without a name or initials. Just want to see if people are willing to put their name on something they are writing.
No, no public official has threatened me or anyone is taking legal action. Just want to possibly put a face or identification/name to the post.
Where is says "comment as" post a name in that location.

That is a great idea. I know that some valuable people have been turned off by the negativity and personal attacks that in my opinion should have never been posted. Good luck getting them back, nope. History.

This is an excellent move. . . no need to "hide" behind Annonymous any longer. Stand up and be counted.

can it be a fictitious nick name ?

stand up and be counted, or stand up and be shot down ?

ok Barry - here's a deal - you promise to post 100% of every comment that is legal to post - and I'll promise to post my name! - bet you can't make that promise!!

so you see Barry, you're also hiding the facts at your own discretion - which you have every right to do since it's your blog!!

If your followers are expected to back up their comments then it is only fair to ask that you offer a quality blog. Take responsibility for anything you allow to post that is hate or damaging to someone. Some of the stuff I have read about in the market blog, borough counsel blog is just hateful crap. It's your Blog, it's got your name all over it. I would be worried about repercussion if I were you sir.

Here is how I feel. While I agree that we should post our names, I also believe that posting our names makes us a black ball in our community. As you see, not everyone can agree on anything in these blogs. The Market House was a huge long blogging experience, but nothing was solved. The bottom line-Columbia needs the market house, needs the revenue and needs to have its diginity back. I would like to see that the person who steps into the plate of the market house-not be stoned, but given a chance. I would also like to see property management improve and the town stop fighting. Give it a rest EG.

Repercussions? From a blog? Seriously? If someone on counsel can't handle a little "heat" (and this blog counts as very little), then they have zero business in those positions. They are not untouchable.

a blog that requires posting of names would be better better - but Barry is too egar to get the traffic and I doubt that he will have the patience to wait for people to be willing to post names and maybe just live with lower traffic for a while - but if he waits it out, they will come edventually - maybe some old ones will drop out and some newer wones will come out of respect and dignity

I personally am sick of hearing comments of Barry wanting or being eager for the "traffic" or "hits" on the blog! Um.....Barry does not get paid for the blog so what does it matter what the numbers are. For those of us who trully know Mr. Ford, we know that he doesn't do the things he does for fame. Barry has volunteered his time for many years throughout our community. His concern for Columbia is Genuine and I believe he is doing us a great service by keeping us up-to-date on happenings in town.

I wasn't being critical - and you're being a bit jumpy! -

In my opinion, Barry should have paid advertisments on the site to compensate him for his time and to give him funds to build his business, and he should try to generate more traffic and awareness to the issues. It's not a crime to want more traffic!!

I too, believe Barry has done a good job. I hit this blog everyday and yes, I am shocked sometime of the thoughts that we as a community say to one another. Barry takes good pictures and report things more timely than the 6ock news. I honestly believe that if we had more people like Barry that was committed to Columbia, then we wouldn't be without a market manager, proper code enforcement, good land lords, good neighbors and good friends. Barry I feel I owe you a thank you from a spectators perspective and hope that you continue to devote your time and effort to columbia as you have in the past! John R. Of Columbia!

Barry's blog did more good than harm. There were some of us who called for the anonymous ones to identify themselves. Agreed there were some hateful and misleading comments posted. There also were positive comments as well. People have the right to speak their minds although hopefully with some sense of control. We no longer have a local paper to expand on local stories and events. A blog if created properly is a good resource to follow. I'm looking forward to the Jn's to start blogging and using their names. This blog may not be as popular once names have to be attached to comments. It still will be good to read other views on many issues that we face in this community.

While I appreciate Barry asking us to post our real name or a name on the blog, I feel the need to justify why I will not. Many times I have seen that if a certain person is disliked, by one or many, anything that comes out of that persons mouth is automatically seen as negative or is discounted. Take for instance Frank Doutrich, as soon as he stands up at council meetings to speak, certain people grumble and at least one is at the front table. He brings up many good points that frankly (no pun intended) many of us are not willing to stand up and state. How many times has he stood up and mentioned something that made you think "I'm glad he said that because I wanted council to know too" or "I wanted to know the answer to that but didn't have the nerve to ask". I am not criticizing those for not speaking up as this is not a strength all of us possess. Look at how many people post on this blog without their real name. Then we try to figure out who the initials are or how many people we know with that first name. I shall not take on initials, a nick name or post my real name. I am making a valid point and I hope Barry decides to post this. It is not as much about fear of being known but ignorance allowing us to not be open minded to certain peoples comments.

I think WHAT is being said is more important than WHO is saying it. We all need to listen to the WHAT and not the WHO.

there should be two seperate sites sharing the exact same posts (technolgy can make this easy for Barry without double entry) - one that requires names to be posted and one that doesn't. Eventually, some of the ones that won't post their names will move over to the higher class blog and reveal themselves. Call the one "Columbia Talk" and call the other "Columbia Gossip"

PK- So you think your 2 initials don't make you anonymous or your statements more credible? Whatever.....
