About 18 people attended tonight's Town Meeting at Glatfelter Field.
There were regular citizens, market standholders, school board members, business leaders and former members of borough council.
Disucssion centered on Code Enforcement in the borough and the lack of enforcement. Other ideas discussed were trying to bring all of the groups in the community together to work for the betterment of Columbia. Other items were Columbia's image and getting more people involved and how to promote the events and good things within our community.
There was a little discussion on the market house and the need for the borough to get projects done such as the replacement of the street trees and street lights in the dowtown.
Also, note was made of the pending release at the end of September of the Columbia Economic Strategic Plan, which is a documment in the works for more than a year, which will guide Columbia's future.
A second meeting will be held in September.

I was trying to decide why more people did not show up for the meeting and I thought perhaps it was because the only people who knew about the meeting are the ones who read "Columbia Talk". There are many in Columbia who do not have computers and others that just do not know about this site. Maybe we should post it on bulletin boards like at Weis or Musser's etc.?
Also, I think I owe the man who complained about the heating bill at the market an apology.
I know I got upset about the negative comment, but you have to understand that the market stand holders are a bit frustrated right now and all the negative talk about the market is not helping at all. We desperately need more stand holders and more customers. Maybe if all the negative people would start coming to market to support us and the town and tell their friends that they should support the market it would help. I did not mean to take my frustrations out on this gentleman, but sometimes you just got to vent! I do not know the mans name, but I hope he sees this comment and accepts my apology.
Evelyn - unfortunatly, most people in this town are not forgiving! - so sad. Maybe we need more Baptism's!
Actally the Strategic Plan was FINISHED last year and they've been sitting on it, the public meetings were to be held last September! If they were going to write it themsevles anyway why pay money to a consultant? Just more Columbia government money/timewasting BS that will never come to anything.
