Another code officer is hired

At a special meeting on Tuesday night, borough council hired George Hart as a part-time Code Enforceent Officer,
Hart's salary will be $18.48 an hour for up to 25 hours a week.
Hart will become the borough's third part-time Code Enforcement Officer. The department also has a full-time officer.
Council explained at its meeting Tuesday that when they hired a previous part-time code officer they had some outstanding candidates, so they decided to hire a third part-time employee.
Mayor Leo Lutz explained Tuesday, that with the hiring of Hart, it would allow the code officec to improve quality of life issues in Columbia.

Hopefully this means that the Boro will more aggressively pursue persistent code violators (like absentee landlords and all the places Barry posted pictures of on this blog) and bring properties into compliance. I have my doubts, but there's always hope. Barry--keep them on their toes. Please keep posting "is this what we want" pics and follow up on previous posts that aren't addressed by Code Enforcement.

Almost $500 a week for a part-time job with no accountability, no wonder they had a pile of applicants for these position. Let's see this codes department start carrying their weight and earning their salaries.

That's not the answer. If you are an investor in rental properties-take care of being responsible for your renters. Rental investment's is the way to secure your financial future.

theres way TOO much trash everywhere-take a walk or a ride and look at ALL these rental properties-the MAJORITY of them have ABSENTEE landlords who don't care-they don't live here and have to see the filth daily

code officers should NOT have to be the landlords babysitters-ALL landlords MUST be made accountable for their own properties, they can't be good landlords-if they are absent landlords!

with the hiring of 2 part time code officers and up to 50 hrs a week, maybe there is an end in sight! it would be really awesome if these code officers would immediately deal with all the problems we hear about constantly-grass,weeds,dog waste, trash, rubbish, junk cars, filth. this would be a great time to START TO GIVE INSTANT CITATIONS/FINES LIKE THE POLICE DO. WOW!!! NO MORE LETTERS AND WAITING WEEKS AND WEEKS FOR AN ANSWER OR SOME THING TO BE DONE. Sounds like a miracle-instant tickets-what do you think???
