But as a packed council chambers looked on as the borough's governing body turned down a request from the developer of the Turkey Hill Experience for a loan of $150,000; hired a third part-time code enforceent officer and approved a contract for the purchase of 14 acres of land between the two bridges, it was a comment from Council President Mary Wickenheiser that had many in attendance saying "what!"
Vern Detz, a former member of the council, was questioning the request from Bill Roberts about his request for the borough to put $150,000 back into the THE (Turkey Hill Experience) project, he remarked about those in attendance, mostly cabin owners from along the Susquehanna River.
Detz told those at the meeting they need to keep attending the meetings.
"The taxpayers of this borough no longer trust borough council," Detz said.
Wickenheiser responded, "I agree with you on that statement."
So, was she agreeing with Detz that she liked the number of people attending the meeting or she doesn't trust the other members of the council? Hopefully, she met she was happy to see people attending the meeting.

I personally heard that reponse from our Council President. The leadership of this Council is just enbarrassing. Including Wickenheiser there should be some members resigning promptly. As the Boro Council leader, Wickenheiser took shots at another Borough enity, the School Board.This shows total weakness on her part.Defending spending and then pointing blame on the School board is a cover up. To be 5 million dollars in debt and on the verge of borrowing another 6-10 million is shocking. Columbia taxpayers need to march on both entities and protest.

My husband and I have lived here for 8 years and I do not get to involved with community government issues, (except to complain about our taxes and as an side note, that is why we are probably going to have move) but, I hear the scully wag around town and read it now on barry's blog, my question is I do not recall when there has been a boro council that has received favorable comments, I think it might be a thankless job, I certainly would not want it, so I choose not to complain about them.
I'm not a big fan of Sandy Duncan but at least she could run a Council meeting.It's a shame the way these meetings are run because it takes away from the good that some Council members do.
At this special Council meeting a question was asked about the closing of the Borough operations on Wednsday at noon. Absoluty no comment from the seven members at the table.And they wonder why we don't trust them.I understand it's for the Borough having a party at Tastes-of-styles on locost st. What's the ocation? Celebrating the five millon debt, the river park, the market house or what? Someone help me please.

The party was actually for selling the 3rd & Linden property which is why no-one on Council wanted to answer the question. What a joke!
Let's not just blame Council for this mess, don't forget about Borough manager Meiskey and Sheriff Lutz who Council takes their direction from. Hellam was smart enough to get rid of Meiskey, Columbia is not.
Just watch who answers a majority of the questions a citizen ask, rarely is it a member of Council, except for Mary W. They're all afraid of being corrected by Meiskey or Lutz.

Observations, this blog is a haven for those who don't know what they are talking about, like to see their negative comments in print and sound off. Why all the negativity and opinions, do some research and report facts not opinions. Reduce the negativity, report facts and offer solutions, be willing to volunteer. Also consider running for public office as you believe your "opinions" are the only ones that count. Here is a FACT - This town is going to be 5 million + in debt under the watch of norm ,the mayor,boro council. FACT!!!. SOLUUTION - Remove them all from thier positions. While I agree complaints to all involved are seemingly falling upon deaf ears, vigilance at council meetings are a MUST. ACCOUNTABILITY is a MUST.

Well SW, I cant make any private citizen be held accountable for whatever they do in their private lives.That is up to them , Im talking about the elected persons of this boro and norman.One day we shall all be held accountable for our actions on a personal level.
