Here is a question?

This is a picture of the former Keystone Fire Company in the first block of  North Fourth Street.
It is no longer a public building, i.e., fire company. It is a commerical building with the possibility of apartments perhaps in the second floor.
The question is that since this building is no longer a fire company, why haven't the "no parking" signs or yellow paint removed or been taken down, parking meters installed and the street lined for parking spaces?
Just asking!

good question! - with the post office we sure do need the parking there. That should be a no brainer - just do it! And by the way, I heard that the building is on the market with private financing available and that the price and terms are very flexible. Also heard that the commercial tenants are under notice from Landord to leave, so let's find a viable end user to buy it while the financing is available. How about downtown bycycle and moped rentals for all the tourists that are coming to stay at the hotels!

I was looking to purchase this building over a year ago, at that time I was told I could use it for commercial purposes but there was not zoning for parking for my customers nor was it zoned for residential. A few weeks later David Doolittle's daughter and son and their dogs were living there. I moved on.

I like the idea of a bicycle/moped rental...this would be a good locaton for it. I do think that it is too early for that right now. Columbia would need more visitors to support it. But this property is kind of hard to fill and a rental place is one business that would be a good fit

I've heard that it can be bought for 150k with private financing and little to no money down. Nothing against churches, but I hope we get a commercial business in there rather then another non-profit. With a mortgage payment of 1000 or so a month and an income producing residential unit on the upper level, someone ought to be able to make a go of this place!

Maybe if this is turned into a bicycle or moped rental facility the visitors could ride around and pick up all the trash laying around this town.

This town has gotten a "name" because so very few care about what goes on in this town. I would love the opportunity to run for council-i don't have a lick of political experience on their level, but I sure would bring a fresh open mind to the table and speak what really matters.I would speak what everyone is thinking, but few speak up. I believe we do care about the place/town we live in and I also believe that many see Columbia as "the oldest, but best" town if you clean up the streets and bad landlords or renters. In a rush rush world-we tend not to see what is lying up upon us. I believe money for borough repairs can be spent solely on a strict, but honest approach-if they only ask what the community really wants. The streets are slowly improving and soon the word of "RiverFest" will be a tradition and a honor to attend! We can't give up. Doesn't Columbia have PRIDE?

you would "love the oppertunity to run" - what makes you think that you don't have that oppertunity?
