Hotel and restaurant planned

This is a picture with the zoning notifcation of the "vacant" lot at Fourth and Locust streets, where David Doolittle will again ask the borough'z zoning board for permission to construct a hotel and restaurant on the site. The meeting is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 30 at the borough hall.
This is perhaps the second or third different plan he has had for this site, all dealing with a hotel.
Across the street, at the former CAP building, where John deVitry is planning the Timeless Inn, it appears those plans are on hold, or, have gone out the window entirely. Signs are cropping up all over town looking for renters for the apartments in he building, along with possible office space. But then again, out of the two projects, deVitry's is more probable in getting done.

good one Barry! now why doesn't someone go to the Zoning meeting and ask Doolittle what happend to the other two plans before we all start jumping to conclusions! - maybe he actually has reasons behind his decisions!

what makes DeVitry's more probable? - let's see, in the past ten years I can think of one in the County that he had something to do with but doesn't own much of, and it happens to be the one that Doolittle sold to him!, so who was more instrumental ?? , hard to say really - but the Arts Hotel in Lancaster is a beauty and it never would have happened without DeVitry.

Timeless Inn project at this time is completing financing. The rental spaces are short term leases to help contribute to the costs for the Inn and until financing is in place and available. Have you seen the Lancaster Arts Hotel? deVitry has some significant resources and vision to make a difference in Columbia. I don't really want to look at another "swimming pool" like the one next to Burning Bridge Antiques. Keeping up with the Jones's has now become keeping up with the deVitry's it seems. Good luck with that one.

That's all Columbia needs another useless building and a useless owner. I like the lot being vacant. They need to turn it into a parking lot. Of course some people from 3rd street and locust street will still come down and take up the parking spaces of people who actually live on 4th street. Nice I know... wish they knew how hard it is to lug a disabled child across town just to get to their home because people park in front of their homes.

Unless this is going to be with the hotel accross the street this location is way too small for a hotel. No parking and the place would need to be 20 stories tall which is very cost prohibitive

short term rentals on apartments ? - what, a six month lease? - one to two months to get them in by August and three months to get them out once the heat bills come and they stop paying rent - doesn't sound like anything will be happening with the hotel this year.

Think outside the box, or should I say clock?
I believe construction begins in September on this. Somebody is doing some decent planning on gaining income for this project. This site indicates the clock & watch student for the museum will benefit from this and contribute to it.

Now that impresses me. Nice to see a project in Columbia with obvious direction and purpose. Why does it take Lancaster people and out of Columbia people to make this stuff happen? If you haven't seen what's happening with the arts in Columbia, the Fourth Friday event coming up is another deal where folks are working together to better our community. The engine pulling it should be very proud and encourage to keep it moving full steam ahead. Bravo.

because people in Columbia don't realize how much investment potential the town has, it's like a lot of things in life - you don't realize how valuable something is until you loose it

PK -- we in Columbia realize the gem we have. We don't need someone like Doolittle slumming it anymore than what he has. We need soe real investors not slum dogs like him

I agree with you PK. Something else I am noticing is a new wave of younger people (younger than Borough Council if you will) that are starting to make a difference and stepping up to the plate in Columbia. There is a take back our streets type collection of folks, there is the Fourth Friday event, again a younger group of people, there is an entire next generation of people just waiting their turn to take things to the next level. I personally am thrilled about this. There is a buzz happening right under the noses of the current Borough folks. Perhaps these current leaders should pay closer attention to the younger people, what they are creating, and for goodness sake ATTEND THEIR EVENTS! The passion I am picking up from the next wave is so invigorating. After all, this next wave of leaders will be in charge of the old leaders community well being and their interests sooner than they realize. That's just reality. Thanks much.
