Day one at District 3 championships

Day one of the District Three Class AA track and field championships is history.
Columbia's Brandon Felus settled for ninth in the discus with a toss of 124 feet, some 39 feet behind the eventual winner. He was seeded 11th in the event.
Derek Zercher was 15th in the 3,200-meter run, in a time of 10:42.15.
In other events:
Girls 100 -- Shaday Frazier (14.21) was seventh in her heat and Leineal Howard (14.15) was eighth in her heat. Neither advanced.
Boys 100 -- Jeremy Daise was eighth in his heat in a time of 12.01 and did not advance.
High Hurdles -- David Wells (18.17) was sixth in his heat and also did not advance.
Girls 200 -- Howard was seventh in her heat in a time of 30.75; Audreana Edmond (29.07) and Fraizer (29.37 were sixth and seventh in the same heat and did not advance.
Saturday, Columbia will have relay teams in the 400-meter relay; Wells will compete in the 300 hurdles and Kelsey Ulrich will compete in the discus.

Weekend events in Columbia

 
Here are three weekend events in Columbia.
Saturday, May 22, 9 a.m.-noon, the Risk Watch Program will hold a free bicycle safety events at SVEMS in the 600 block of Poplar Street.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., The Columbia High School Football team will hold a car wash at Glatfelter Field.
Sunday, May 23, the Columbia United Veterans Council will hold its Memorial Day observance and parade.
The observance will be held in Locust Street Park at 1p.m. The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m., at 10th and Manor streets.
