One charged in stabbing

On 5-20-13 at approximately 2:10 am, Columbia Police Officers encountered a stabbing
victim with wounds that resulted from a fight that just occurred in the 100 Block of S.
5th Street in Columbia Borough.  While on routine patrol, Officer Brent Smith heard a
disturbance and noticed two males walking near 5th and Union Streets.  Officer Smith
approached the males and noticed that one of the males had suffered multiple stab

scene.  EMS personnel were summoned to the scene and transported the victim to a
local hospital for treatment.

This male was at the scene of the fight, but the nature of his involvment is not clear at
this time.  He suffered at least one wound to his lower right leg.  His wounds were not
life threatening.

Columbia Police were able to identify the suspect as Zachary Groft, 22, of the 500 Block
of Cherry Street, Columbia, PA.  Groft was arrested at his residence without incident
and was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Prohibited

Offensive Weapons by Detective Matt Leddy.  He will be arraigned before Magesterial
