Breaking News from the Columbia School District

A letter was sent home this afternoon with students in the Columbia Borough School District as a way of informing parents of a potential problem around the schools.
The letter was signed by Virginia Babic, principal at the Columbia Junior-Senior High School.

This morning at approximately 8:30 a.m., the principals at Park and Taylor Elementary Schools and

Columbia Jr.-Sr. High School were contacted by the Columbia Borough Police letting us know that a light
blue mini-van occupied by two white males may have been trying to pick up students. The police requested that administrators make an announcement to the student body of each school to find out if any students saw this van or were approached by the occupants in the van.
We spoke again with the police at 11:15 a.m. who stated that upon further investigation they believe that there was no evidence to substantiate this report.
We are thankful that nothing turned up with this investigation.
Nevertheless, we would like to take this opportunity to encourage all parents to remind your children
to always be aware of their surroundings. They should not talk to strangers and should report to you
or an adult in charge of any unusual activity that they may encounter. The safety of our students and
your children is of top priority in the district, and we appreciate your support in helping us to maintain
a safe environment.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please contact an administrator in the building office.
