District 3 changes power rating system

The PIAA District 3 committee has approved changes in its power rating system. Also, there's talk of spring football practice for high schools in Pennsylvania. Here are a couple of links.http://highschoolsports.pennlive.com/news/article/-1681397185920572910/district-3-goes-with-new-power-rating-system-on-limited-basis/

Scoop, don't think this will have an effect on Columbia, heard that a decision will be made to give up either football or basketball at CHS, can you confirm?

If I read this correctly when it was proposed and today, this will help Columboa in all areas beccause there are no penalties for the big boys playing the little boys, so to speak. I think our great strength when it came to the post-season was our league and non-league schedules. As for dropping sports or activities, it could happen, but basketball and football bring money in. Perhaps a pay to play might be an idea, which some schools do or have considered.

Interesting considering that football and basketball have basically been the only two sports that have ever really enjoyed success over the years. I find this hard to believe but you just never know. Kids don't have much to do in this town as it is. This would eliminate the need for CBAA football and/or basketball as well. The youth will go down the wrong path even faster if this is proposed and put forth. If this suggestion is to force the kids into dedicating more time to education, that won't happen by eliminating certain sports.

I really don't see this happening -- again a couple of reasons -- they bring in money, th4y have tradition and they spent a ton of oney rehabbing the football field and they are redoing the gym. Real funny that I have not heard this because I have friends on the board and friends who coach these sports. I do agree there isn't as uch stuff for the kids to do in this town as there was, but many don't take advantage of what is here and even with sports, there are kids going down the wrong paths. For some reason, this sounds like a "bench rumor" from a local grocery store, or, more people would be up in arms.
