Tonight's meeting and....

Just a reminder about tonight's special meeting of Columbia Borough Council at 7 p.m.
The agenda includes possible approval of the borough's Act 537, dealing with the possibility of a new waste water treatment plant, which will include a major increase in sewer rates.
Also, I have learned another part of the growing agenda will deal with the possible sale/lease by the borough of land currently owed by Norfolk Southern near River Park.
Most likely with all special meetings, citizen comment will be limited to agenda items only.

Here is another thought about our council meetings.
Ever wonder what can be discussed at executive sessions? Governments can hold executive sessions to discuss legal, personnel and land acquisition matters. But how many times have residents gone to council committee meetings and two weeks later an item shows up on the agenda that never went through the committee structure? Well, perhaps these type items are being discussed during the personnel committee meetings, which the public can't attend. Just thinking out loud!

Thank your friends in Harrsiburg for the increase in sewer rates. There is little the Borough can do to stop control this. Act 537 has been the biggest thorn in the side to local government for years and it just keeps getting worse.

evewn more reason to attend tonights meeting !!! although-if we go with LASA the sewer bills would at LEAST triple and then the BOro DOESN'T OWN ANYTHING and they LASA doesn't want any of our lines to repair or replace-that's what they said at public mtg probably 2 yrs ago . we would have to be STUPID to agree to anything OTHER THAN BUILD A NEW PLANT

It's VERY important for ALL to attend this meeting TONIGHT AT 7:00..... check out the agenda

Council only discusses personnel issues in that commitee, if they get off that issue, they are told ti stop the discussion.

I THINK THAT EVERYONE WOULD BE SMART TO KEEP CONTROL OF OUR OWN SEWER PLANT. THAT SUPPLIES INCOME FOR THE BOROUGH.

i agree with William and stated that a few hours ago-we'd be stupid to sell the seweer plant and LASA didn't want all the pipes anyway-at least we OWN it-LASA would increase the sewer bills triple right off the bat

check this out - i bet the solicitor will be at the meeting tonight too-at a cost of what- $ 400 dollars an hour.. that's the best guess and in reality is probably right on. why is the solicitor at all these meetings-because the powers that bee- norm, leo and mary are trying to SLIP ONE PAST US......why can't they wait until the next month to vote on an iten-after they copied it to the solicitior. i'm puzzled...

I HOPE THE COTTAGE OWNERS MAKE A GOOD SHOWING AT THE MEETING. YOU KNOW HOW THEY LIKE TO RUN THROUGH OTHER ITEMS AT A "SPECIAL" MEETING. CITIZENS BEWARE!

Are the council meetings allowed to be video taped? The live coverage would even be better. I'm sure there's someone that would love to do the honor if this is allowed. There are a lot of people that would like to attend these meetings but aren't able to because of work or other obligations.

first-yes, i believe meetings can be taped by a private citize, there's a sign taped to the window stating that you announce it-i hope someone tapes the boro council mtg on 8/9 and all others. the ONLY reason they don;t record is BECAUSE THEY DON;T WANT ANY PROOF OF COMMENTS . We're just as bad to let this continue. We must find someone who has the equipment to record ALL boro council meetings ASAP. Any ayes?
Second-just attend the meeting and you have NO choice but to be a naysayer. they LIE, they IGNORE the taxpayers and THEY NEED TO BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY.

i admit it would be great if someone recorded and/or taped ALL Boro council mtgs and Special Boro Council Mtgs. EVERY MONTH - don't forget that Norm loves to add a special boro council mtg every month (it costs taxpayers i believe about $ 580 every time/month). UNACCEPTABLE.
NORM, LEO AND MARY ALL HAVE THEIR OWN PERSONAL AGENDAS. THAT'S ALL THEY CARE ABOUT. LET'S OUST THEM. Note to all the baby boomers in this boro-seriously consider running for boro council, mayor, school board. We're in deep trouble.

I would love to run for a board position- can we vote for impeachement of the current ones, can we rally outside the office? what shall we do?

did i hear a yay-that someone has the equipment and WILL record the next boro council mtg? it's be awesome! a picture (of council, norm, leo) would be worth a million bucks

morning ! any citizen has the RIGHT to record and/or tape the Boro council mtgs. there's a notice on the window of the council room-you just have to say "I;m recording this meeting" - do we have any takers that has the equipment to record mtg? HEY-MAYBE WE SHOULD PRACTICE THAT AT THE PROPERTY COMMITTEE MTG ON TUES AUG. 3 @ 7:30
