Once again Leo Lutz tried to handcuff Council by refusing to sign the 2011 budget. All because he wanted to add additional costs to it. This Council stood firm when it adopted the 2011 budget. A great stance by them. The interesting part was when members of Council and the Boro Manager reported to the public that no budget was submitted by the Mayor or Chief for the last few years. The police budget was made up by the Borough Manager. By his own admission the Mayor was the one who told Council about no budgets were being handed in by the Chief. That's when the Mayor threw the Chief under the bus. Lutz claimed he did not know the chief wasn't submitting the budget. When questioned by Council the Mayor did some back peddling and Council refused to buy it. I just have to question who is running the Police department??? I don't often agree with Jim Smith or Mike Buery but they finally or at least some of them are questioning Lutz's actions. Where was Council all this time? Council took a giant step in getting back in control of this community instead of listening to the Mayor who thinks he is in charge. Read the papers, there are cuts in all areas to include police and Fire protection throughout communities all over the state. The Mayor made a threatening comment last evening by saying "it is the sole responsibility of this Council to make this borough safe". He's right, but it always doesn't mean you have to keep adding personal when there are other ways to do things.

Oh hello, Timmy Swartz where are you?
We expect to view your "unbiased" views and senseless, rambling remarks, your are slipping as "Rome is burning."
Is it true u & Jimminny Smith are conspiring to uproot knowledgable council servants, ie. Leo Lutz & Norm Miskey?

This town along with its residents are broke and living paycheck to paycheck. It's high time these unions stop forcing raises down our throats when the rest of the world is trying to do its part by taking pay freezes or cuts and taking on more financial responsibility for health care costs. This is the same for the teachers. Kudos to Hempfield administrators for taking the high road and not accepting pay increases even though it was in their contract. Sadly this town isn't alone in its thinking....everyone thinks life is about entitlements. People think they DESERVE a raise, well, don't we all!? Our Superintendent of schools doesn't mind accepting his raise, he doesn't have to live in this town! And our borough workers....why don't they do the right thing and refuse their raises?!?! It's time control is taken back in this town and accountability at all levels is enforced. When is it time for people to do what's best for the whole instead of their own pocketbook?

Hell, the borough ran their sweeper today. Probably made enough money in tickets to pay the entire 2011 budget.

How nice...

FYI - The CURRENT management of this Boro of ours have given themselves AT LEAST 3 raises in the last 3 years...especially Norm and his sidekick....but it includes ALL MANAGEMENT......
