Police seek help in copper thefts

Columbia Police are seeking help in solving a number of copper thefts from churches and homes in the borough.

Thefts are copper down and rain spouts.

Police said they have received reports of people checking out vacant homes, breaking into them to steal copper pipes from outside air conditioners.
If you see someone that does not belong in your area, call police at 684-7735 or 911.

There were also reports of a white truck seen in the area of the thefts.

Most recycling yards in our area are smart enough to know if somebody walks in to their company with copper down spouts unless its a contractor, flags should be raised. Our Industry is so regulated with new laws that most likely the idiots who stoled this material will somehow be caught. In different parts of the country people selling scrap in some cases have their photo taken along with showing their licenses. Hard to figure out how somebody can steal a downspout and walk down a street without someone noticing it.
