Park Rangers plan work detail

Looking for a way to get some exercise without going to the gym? Come out to the Locust Street Park in Columbia on Saturday, Dec. 10, and help the Columbia Park Rangers remove leaves.
The Park Rangers have been around since 2001 and are comprised of community volunteers that want to give a "little extra shine" to the local parks. In most cases there is only enough money in the Park's budget to take of mowing and the extra things like leaf removal, trimming, pulling weeds, painting, repairs and mulching fall by the wayside.
To volunteer or for more information, call Jeff Groff at 684-0861 or email him at jgroff@fandm.edu.

Parl Rangers plan work details

Now that we're past summer's horrendous heat and unofficial end on Labor Day, the Columbia Park Rangers will again start work details.
The first will be an evening one on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Glatfelter Field, 12th Street and Lancaster Avenue at the children's playground. Rangers will weed and spread mulch at the playground.
The next will be on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. at Zion Hill Cemetery on North Fifth Street just north of the U.S. 30 underpass. Ranger will assist the Rivertownes PA USA as part of a grant they received for doing work and preparing a program.

Park Rangers to work at Janson's Park

On Saturday, May 8, the Columbia Park Rangers will work at Janson Park. Rangers will assemble at 8 a.m. at South Sixth and Cherry Streets. The four-hour work session will be a general cleanup of the park and the community-built play area in the park's northwest corner.

Over the past decade the Janson Foundation, legacy of the Janson Brothers, has not only gradually replaced the older trees with new ones, but also added even more strategically placed ones. When mature these trees will provide shade for both spectators and those taking a break from the baseball, football, soccer, and basketball games that assure the park's use in all seasons.

With general cleanups such as this the Rangers help to maintain these trees.

Park Rangers schedule event

On Saturday, March 20, the Columbia Park Rangers will assemble at 8 a.m. at Glatfelter Field at South 12 Street and Lancaster Avenue for a Spring Cleanup involving trash pickup and leaf removal. Most appropriately this is the first day of spring after a nasty winter marked by several heavy snows.

This will also mark the start of Columbia Park Ranger's 10th season of helping to maintain Columbia's parks.
