Chamber hosting passport event

Visit the river towns of Columbia, Marietta, Wrightsville and the surrounding area to shop, dine in a cozy eatery, visit quaint antique shops and museums and shops off the beaten path with the Passport to River Towns program, coordinated by the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The passes cost $5, and offer specially designed discounts and or promotions offered only to holders of the pass. They are currently available at the Visitors Center and many of the participating businesses.

The program will run on weekends beginning Jan. 20 and ending Feb. 11. For more information on the program contact the Visitors Center at 684-5249.

Chamber to host Mixer

The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a  Business Mixer, sponsored by Province Bank, 10 South 18th St.

SVCC Night at the Barnstormers

Peanuts! Popcorn! Crackerjacks! Enjoy the standard treats popular at a baseball game while benefiting the SVCC.
Purchase a ticket to the Lancaster Barnstormers vs. York Revolution game on Saturday, August 14, and SVCC will earn a portion of the ticket price to help support the Visitors Center.

The game, beginning at 6:30, will end with fireworks. Tickets to the game are $10 each. The SVCC will have a limited number of tickets on hand. While we have not yet received our supply, we are taking pre-orders. Reserve your ticket by contacting us at 684-5249, or by stopping in to see us.

Tickets that benefit the SVCC may also be ordered on-line. Follow the easy steps listed below when you place your on-line order. Invite friends and family to an enjoyable night out. Support the SVCC and Visitors Center by purchasing tickets to the August 14, 2010, Barnstormers game.

Chamber to hold Art in the Park

Friday marks the First Annual Art in the Park event coordinated by the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce. This event coincides with the Fourth Friday programming of Columbia's art galleries.
Art in the Park, sponsored by Buchart Horn, will be an open air art show located along Locust Street in the downtown Columbia park. The event will run from 4-8 p.m.and will feature music in the gazebo, art in various media, and an opportunity to get in touch with your inner artist.
\Make an evening of it; stop by Art in the Park then visit Columbia's art galleries. Finish off the evening with jazz at Perfect Settings.

Chamber to host contest

The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce (SVCC) in Columbia is seeking bakers to enter a cupcake contest to be held in Columbia's Locust Street Park on Saturday, June 19.


Setup will begin at 9:30 a.m., and judging will start at 10 a.m. Judges from The Flour Child, The Daily Grind and Columbia Borough will sample cupcakes and rate them based on appearance and flavor. Awards will be given in two categories, bakers 16 and under and bakers over 16. The winner in each category will receive a prize package valued at $75.

Following the judging and awards ceremony, cupcakes will be sold to the public. Bakers are asked to provide a minimum of four dozen cupcakes and must agree to sell them for a set price. All money collected from the cupcake sale will be shared by the Columbia, Wrightsville and Maytown food banks.

Interested bakers are asked to fill out an application form and submit it along with an entry fee to SVCC.. For more information or an application, interested persons may call the SVCC at 684-5249

New banners are installed

In case you haven't noticed in downtown Columbia, the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, with the assistance of the borough's highway department, has erected street banner promoting upcoming chamber events on Locust Street. This banner promotes next month's Antique, Art and Craft Show, sponsored by Province Bank. There are a number of stands still available by contacting the chamber at 684-5249.

Trailer Dog to sponsor breakfast

Trailer Dog, LLC, will be the sponsor for a Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Comerce Breakfast on Tuesday, May 25.
The breakfast will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Columbia United Methodist Church, Fifth and Walnut streets.
The program begins at 7:45 a.m.
Brian Roche of WGAL will speak on electric choice and rate caps.
The meetingis free for SVCC members and $10 for non-members.

Cupcake Contest

Cupcake Contest
Sweet!
Calling bakers of every age group!! Saturday, June 19, the annual Cruisin’ Columbia car show will be held in downtown Columbia. To make this a truly “sweet” event, the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Cupcake Contest to be held in conjunction with this event. We are looking for interested bakers to enter their sweet treats into the competition.

The Cupcake Contest will be held in Locust Street Park. Set up will begin at 9:30 am. The contest officially starts at 10:00 when the judging begins. Judges from The Flour Child, The Daily Grind, and Columbia Borough will sample cupcakes and rate them based on appearance and flavor. Awards will be given in a category for Bakers Sixteen and Under and a category for Bakers Over Sixteen. The winner in each category will win bragging rights and a prize package valued at $75.

Following the judging and awards ceremony, cupcakes will be sold to the public. All money collected from the sale of cupcakes will be shared by the Columbia Food Bank, the Wrightsville Food Bank, and the Maytown Food Bank.

Interested bakers need to fill out an application form and submit it along with the $10.00 entry fee to SVCC. Bakers are asked to provide a minimum of 4 dozen cupcakes and must agree to sell them for $.50 each. All money collected must be submitted to SVCC who will remit the donations to the local food banks.
The Cupcake Contest will last until noon or until the cupcakes are gone, whichever comes first. Entry forms must be received before June 11, 2010.

Treasures in Your Attic

Treasures in Your Attic, an antique appraisal fair, hosted by the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce will be held Saturday, March 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 116-118 North Third St., the site of the former Revival Skate Shop.


Local antique dealers and appraisers Dave Dickson, Ron Madar and Harold Keller will be on hand to lend their assistance in appraising family heirlooms and treasures. No stamps, coins or military items are allowed and all items must be hand carried to the event.

Tickets are available at two prices – $5 for a verbal appraisal for one item and $10 covers the verbal appraisal of three items.

Tickets can be purchased at the chamber’s visitor center, 445 Linden St., or at the door the day of the event.

Proceeds from this event the rivertowns of Columbia, Marietta and Wrightsville, along with the upkeep of the visitor’s center.

Sponsors for the event are the Rivertowne Antique Center, Burning Bridge Antiques Market and Partners and Friends.
