The late edition of Is This What We Want

Discovered this one thanks to an alert reader at Front and Bridge streets at one time where the Susquehanna Towers were to be constructed on the site of a former foundry in Columbia. Now, these wood pallets are stacked throughout the property, some higher than the fence. Can you say fire trap? Oh by the way, there's a theme here -- the property owner was at one time considered Columbia's savior.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TOWER PROJECT. THAT WAS GOING TO MAKE COLUMBIA TAKE A HUGE LEAP IN TO THE FUTURE.

Typical of this so called "Developer". He is a commercial "slum lord" and it is shameful that our elected officials are not putting a stop to this. His properties make our town look like crap and since most of them are at key locations you can't miss them. OPEN YOUR EYES COUNCIL!!!!! Then go to the borough and put your codes people on this guy!!!!

This has been around for awhile as well.

You got it all wrong. The skids are the new windows to the new High Rise at Bridge and Front street. Give the guy credit. He's trying.

I agree - it's not an easy go in this town even in good times and he's hanging on a lot longer then anyone every thought he could - but this place does look like a dump so just out of curiousity and to be fair I called Doolittle today to get his viewpoint and guess what folks? - he doesn't like it either and he recently filed at Herman's for eviction on this guy because the guy can't seem to follow the simple terms of the lease. I've heard that this pallet guy is a real smooth talker and has been around the block a few times so I sure hope he doesn't find another fool in this town to rent to him! Doolittle also said the Borough has been on his butt about the guy's pallets on the sidewalk - so thank's to the Borough for making a phone call to Doolittle and thanks to Barry for bringing this story to our attention!, but really Barry, it might be a good idea give the propoerty owners the courtesy of a phone call before you write a story even though some of them don't deserve it! :)

Okay, let's look at Mr. Doolittle and what he has done in Columbia....He was a PARTNER in Burning Bridge, now he's no longer involved. He owns the building where A Taste of Styles is (not bad). But, the track record isn't that good. Just on Locust Street -- 243 Locust has had a number of occupants; Fourth and Louust, some how he got that building demolished and now is coming back with more plans for a hotel and restaurant. He owns the downtown swimming pool, which is another building some how came down. Back to 4th and Locust again, the building next to the parking lot he gutted and has another junk place in there. His coffee shop apparently is closed snd doesn't have a legal bathroom. The Sprint building is disgusting. On Fourth Street, he owns the former Keystone FC and well, we all no what a mess that is and what happened there about a month ago. Down near the Bridge, as pointed out the pallet place, Bricktown and the Mikey's Junk Place. Says he doesn't eant these people -- oops -- he's the freaking landlord. He got so many breaks from our town and has done absolutely nothing to make it better. It was his MO when he came here and those on council at that time bent over backwards for him cause they had dillusions of grander. There for a while when he stopped, you saw certain current and forner members of council fall out of his backside. Looks like some are finally wising up to him.

I want to bring business into Columbia. I too, wanted to rent a building unfortuantely that belongs to him. However, the building is invested with code violations. I enjoy my hometown of columbia...why doesn't the code enforcement force him to step up to the plate or vacate as an owner.

So you want to bring business to Columbia and can't do it because Doolittle owns the building that you want, ha! - and do you really think that his buildings were in better shape before he bought them? If he has a building that you want and if you are serious about doing something, talk to him because from what I understand he's starting to let some go.

i dont see a big problem with this place. yes it needs cleaned up but its used pallet sales next to gordan recycling so what do you expect. these kinds of places provide jobs and we need jobs too
