More junk

Not sure if this one belongs under the the daily post of Is This What We Want for Columbia or not. But it is beside the Bricktown skate complex, which has given residents of the area, another vacant warehouse has been turned into a flea market, according to the sign in the 200 block of Chestnut Street. Again, the property is owned by.....

Mikey here has had a couple of businesses downtown, also in Doolittle properties that bombed.

Who is Mickey? Not familiar with him. Are those windows broken? Does not seem like a safe place to even walk into.

Wonder if there is even a certificate of occupancy for this property?

This place has been open for months if not over a year.

When I opened my business in Columbia 2 years ago I checked with the borough first to see what paperwork was necessary to open the doors. I was told by the code guy that nothing was needed. And come to think of it, he has never even come through the door once, nobody from the borough really has, not even Mayor Lutz and I have a nice business. This says a lot doesn't it?

yep, this say's that Columbia is business friendly!

Has anyone stopped at Mikey's flea market yet? I stopped at the flea market yesterday. Totally unbelievable! Boxes and boxes of junk just packed on top of another. Where did they acquire all that junk?!?! Communities Dumpster Day's? Not much displayed - you gotta dig through boxes (of total junk) that are piled on top of each other. What a freakin' mess, let alone scary! Ya get the feeling rats are gonna come crawlin' out! 2 other customers(?) were there - wearing sunglasses on a cloudy day inside a big old warehouse that had no lights on inside looking through a small box of nuts and bolts. Is this by chance a cover up business? Stop by and visit and see what you think.

Would love to hear what any one else thinks of Mikey's Flea Market. What did you buy while there? The best item I saw there was a worn little kids sponge bob sqaure pants umbrella. I think Mayor Lutz should pay a visit to Mikey's Flea Market.

I was in the building a few times and I know Mikey. It's not a flea market - it's just this one guys warehouse sale full of collectables from the past 40 years including things his parents and grandparents gave to him! The stuff sure isn't in any degree of order but if you dig around a bit it's not hard to find valuables from the early 1900's still in original boxes. There's a picture in the back of an early Columbia shcool class in perfect condition for ten bucks. When I was there some guy bought an antique compass for $20 bucks and another guy found and bought an old set of binoculars in perfect condition for 25 bucks. Things that you can buy in there for 20 bucks sell at burning bridges for ten times that much. I sure hope he stays open for a few more weeks until I have time to get in there again and hunt for some more treaure, but knowing Mikey he'll take in a few grand, pay some bills, and close down for another year.

So, you want Mr. Ford to call these property owners first. Well, these people who have code issues don't deserve a phone call. They deserve a letter from the borough and properties cleaned up or repaired. He's just pointing out things the borough should have been doing for years, trying to light a fire.

Speaking of lighting a fire, thank you, this is a nice transition for me. Mickey's Flea Market = Mickey's Fire Hazard. What a freaking mess.

One man's mess is another man's treasure! - there's stuff in there that people would pay money just to see - and can be bought from Mikey for pennies on the dollar 'cause he's in a good mood these days!
