Special meeting of council

Notice is hereby given that a Special Meeting of Columbia Borough Council will be held on Tuesday, July 27, at 7 p.m. (changed from 7/21/10) in the Borough Municipal Building, 308 Locust St., Columbia, PA to hold a public hearing to act on the revised PA Act 537 Sewage Facility Plan, and any other Borough business.
If you are a person with a disability wishing to attend and require an accommodation to participate in the meeting, please contact the Borough Office at 684-2467

Folks, Attend this special meeting if you want to know why your sewer rates are going up. Don't bitch later. Now is the time to come with your questions.

Codes Department
About the Code Compliance Department
The Code Compliance Department administrates all ordinances related to Health, Safety and Public Welfare of the community through the administration of local, state and federal codes. These codes regulate the use and maintenance of public and private real estate & structures.

Specifically, the Department oversees the:
* Handicap Parking Ordinance
* Health & Sanitation Ordinance
* Historic District Ordinance
* Rental Registration/Inspection/Licensing Ordinance
* Property Maintenance Ordinance
* Uniform Construction Code Ordinance
* Portions of the Streets and Sidewalk Ordinance
* Subdivision & Land Development (Planning) Ordinance
* Zoning Ordinance.



In administrating the above ordinances, the department:
* Distributes & processes requests for handicap street parking signs
* Inspects & licenses eating and drinking establishments
* Investigates rubbish & other sanitary issue complaints
* Distributes & processes requests for exterior construction work in the
historic district
* Registers, inspects and licenses rental dwelling buildings
* Investigates property maintenance complaints
* Reviews structural, mechanical, electrical, HVAC & plot plans
* Issues building, curb/sidewalk, and street opening permits
* Distributes & processes applications for subdividing land & land development
* Distributes & processes zoning hearing applications



Department personnel also provide service to the following boards, commissions, and committees:
* Board of Health
* Historic Architectural Review Board
* Keystone Opportunity Zone – Lancaster Economic Revitalization Tax Abatement
Board
* Parks & Recreation Commission
* Planning Commission
* Zoning Board of Adjustment

thanks for all the code dept info-in ref to special mtg tonight-we'd be STUPID to sell our plant. we need to keep it and OWN something-LASA would cost at least $ 6 million dollars JUST TO HOOK UP AND THEY DON';T WANT ANY OF OUR LINES-AND THEN WE STILL HAVE TO PAY TO FIX ALL-STUPID...
