National Night Out, except here

A number of communities and police departments are celebrating National Night Out tonight. I saw our neighbors from West Hempfield Township did a program Sunday in Mountville and Manor Township had a program at the Manor Middle School.
Columbia? They haven't had a National Night Out celebration since John George served as police chief. As I remember it, there were a couple of block parties and a number of people sitting out on their front porches. It was a good public relations tool for our police department and something that was well received.

well I saw Grenya driving around after 5pm in the official car keeping an eye on things - did John George do that? - I'd rather have a chief that works overtime then a national night out party!

Yes, John George did do that and he walked around town and handed out coloring books to the children. Which my granddaughter still remembers getting that book.

even without a program-all could still sit out on their porches with the lights on-they should have their lights on all evenings, it deters loiterers and vandalism

I agree that National Night Out should be revamped here in Columbia. I would be willing to organize a National Night Block Party, Crime Watch, Block captains, Bike patrol, hang wreaths from street lights provided by Columbia, hang a banner that reads, We are Proud Again Here in Columbia and so on. I just need the help of the Boro to approve.

i agree, National Night Out should be held here. Especially here with all the transients and such. We need to proptect our children. It would be nice to see the police and code officers WALKING THE DOWNTOWN AREA REGULARLY. giving advice, informing tenants how to take care of things that if they aren't taken care of then they'll get fined. all we can do to take back our town to the way it was and the way it SHOULD BE !

the meter cop was walking around the downtown area Friday night up 'till 9pm and just having him around gives some security to the area plus some more revenue to the Borough from the parking tickets - good job Columbia Borough!
