Annville-Cleona lost to Palmyra, 33-13
Northern Lebanon was crushed by Pine Grove, 35-7
Pequea Valley and York Tech combined for 94 points as the Techsters scored a 48-46 win
Lancaster Catholic opened with a 35-7 win over Trinity.

Columbia hits the road Friday

Columbia plays its first-ever game against Northeastern on Friday Night. Directions and information on the Bobcats can be found elsewhere on this site.

Crimson Tide notebook

J.V team completes sweep
Columbia won the junior varsity game this morning by a 26-0 score. Bryan Flory scored three times. Andrew Combs scored once and added a two-point conversion.

Offensive number crunching
Columbia had 460 yards in total offense last night. The Tide rushed the ball 41 times for 320 yards with Brock Taylor leading the way with 107 yards on just five carries. Taylor also scored twice.  Junior quarterback Tyler Harrison, making his first start, rushed for 92 yards. His final number would have been higher, but he was sacked once and lost a fumble out of the shotgun for 11 yards. Passing wise, he was 11-19 for 158 yards and three scores -- two to Michael Burke IV and one to Seth Lfever.
Burke and Lefever both caught four passes each, while sophomore Nick Nobile had two big catches.In all, eight players touched the ball for the Tide.

Defensive number crunching
The Tide was victimized for 228 yards on the ground by the Golden Knights. Of those 228 yards, 146 of them came on two plaus. Quarterback Mark Holloway ran a keeper up the gut for 63 yards early in the game. Later, Mitch Leratonda sprinted 73 yards for a score. Holloway wa sacked a couple of times, operating out of the shotgun. Kevim Simms and Marcus Fischer had the sacks.

Odds and ends
There were no turnovers in the game.Columbi a recorded two safeties in the game late in the fourth quarter. One when Holloway was called for intentional grounding when pressured in the end zone by Dominic Trout and threw the ball straigh up in the air. The other game when a snap on an Eastern punt sailed out of the ened zone.  The Tide just missed a thtird safety late in the first half when the Knights downed the ball after a Tide score inside the one.
Here's another standout for the Tide. Senior Johnny Vazquez returns six kickoffs for 136 yards.

Injuriy update
Junior Dion Matthews is out three more weeks with a separates shoulder. During the game, Trout, Lefever and DJ Wells all missed time with cramping issues.

Points
The 43 points was the most scored by a Tide team since Oct. 24, 2008 when the Tide put up 62 in a 52-20 win over Pequea Valley. The win also stopped an 11-game losing streak for the Tide, who had not won since beating Donegal, Oct. 31, 2008.

Enough is enough

I've been trying to look at some of the positive things happening in our town, but after yesterday's trip through town and then just reading about what happened in Lancasteronline, enough is enough.
Let me take you back a step.
Yesterday, I was leaving my breakfast stop, heading down to the railroad to take a picture of the passenger train going through town. I was alerted about a possible fight down in the area of Fourth Street near where the Keystone Fire Company was. By the way, I loaded up and got down to the corner, the alleged fight had moved closer to Fourth and Locust street.
I watched for a little and got my phone out to dial police, but got a busy signal and watched for a new more minutes before exiting the area. When I went down  by the police station, Sgt. Tremblay was loading up to answer the call.
So, all I've heard from the proper people in town, that we have no problems. Let's see, back in May. a kid was shot and killed in town and now a police officer injured answering a call. There's a lot more going on in town that I will get into at a later date. I can't understand why the "powers to be" in our town keep insisting on there are no problems, when its obvious there are.
Now is the time, we need to take our town back. Get the "scum" out of Columbia and turn our town into something we once had and we can be proud of once again.
Yes folks, it is bad in Columbia and we can no longer tolerate the way we are being forced to live.

Almost ready

Finishing touches are being put on the outside of the new construction at the entrance to Columbia High School. School opens Tuesday.

Bee-hive of activity

The campus of Columbia High School was busy tonight. Seventh and eighth grade parents and students were inside attending the Middle School Orientation program. Outside, in addition to the football team, the band and cheerleaders were busy working on routines for Friday's opener.

Two-a-days end

The 2010 Crimson Tide football team took advantage of Columbia's late start to the school year, by getting a few extra two-a-day practices in, which ended tonight.  The Tide opens its season Friday on the hill against Eastern.

Shirts for the Tide

The Columbia varsity football team received new t-shirts tonight after practice from Rick Breault and Jim Smith, purchased by friends of the community and Wilco Electric. Breault works for PPL.

An interesting discovery

While heading up to football practice this afternoon, I made this interesting discovery under the Route 30 bypass on the high school hill.
